Christopher Meloni (Det. Stabler) and
Mariska Hargitay (Det. Benson) in
Law and Order: SVU.
Law and Order: SVU gets off to its ninth season tonight. It's hard to
imagine that it has been that long since the show first aired. But even
though it went through some shaky ground at first, in the long run it
has proved to be one of the best crime shows on television.
From the look of it, the new season will be perhaps the best ever. In
fact the writing of the show has if anything improved over the past
year. The personalities of Detectives Stabler and Benson have been
pushed to the front a bit more, making the show more up close and
CBS is premiering a new show this season called Moonlight, about a
vampire private detective. As much as I like the private-eye stuff
(obviously), I'll have to give a big No Thanks on that one. Give me
Stabler and Benson out hitting the pavement, interviewing informants
and working the case.
Mariska Hargitay finally landed an Emmy for her role. Perhaps this
coming season will get Meloni his own justly-deserved statue.
And then, maybe we can work on getting Ice-T his own nod.
Ice-T (Det. Tutuola).
