Which is the higher Virtue —
Truth, or Compassion?

Can Compassion exist without Truth?
Would not Compassion without Truth be
a sham, a posturing of the emotions?

Is not Compassion a kind of Truth, one
which acknowledges that deep thing within
ourselves that reaches out and unifies us
with other creatures?

Yet what is Truth without Compassion,
but alone in the world, and lifeless?
