I've done a bit of gentle poking of the finger here on
the blog about Madagascar over the years. I didn't mean
it, it was all in good fun.
So today when I accidentally ran across guitarist Ernest
Randrianasolo (a.k.a. D'Gary) on youTube, I decided to make
up for it a bit and post this fine track by an incredible
musician from Madagascar.
Wow.
Great guitar playing and I love hearing the singing in the native language.
@ Star.Glad you liked it. I've been listening to some of the other D'Gary links in the sidebar, too.@ Pam.You know I didn't even know what language they speak in Madagascar. So after your comment I looked it up. Turns out that Malagasy is closer to Polynesian than any of the African languages. Fascinating.
In Denmark we often refer to Madagascar as 'Madam Græskar' (Græskar is pronounced 'grass-car' and means pumpkin).Love the music.
Polynesian? Didn`t know that. Being that close to Africa, one could expect something south African. It seems Polynesian people were great travellers despite their islands being lost deep in the oceans.
@ Martin. It's the Great Pumpkin! Oh no, there I go making jokes about Madagascar again. And so soon! I give up. But am glad you liked the music. (I know how picky you musicians can be.)@ Darko. You are exactly right on that. Up until very recent times, langauge was always linked to migration. So that would be a wide area indeed — from Madagascar all the way to Easter Island and possibly the West coast of South America. Amazing.
It would make great Summer music, wouldn't it? If I have to go through Summer, it might as well be listening to some wonderful music. So I might buy the CD or a few MP3s.:up:I think it's time for you to go to bed and hug your pillow and have some sweet dreams! 😮
this is beautiful,a taste of a far away place :)
Why is it that nobody makes fun of Denmark? We have guitarists, too.Oh, but come to think of it – somebody did:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bbKK47cU6I&feature=relatedNice satire, don't you think?
God, I remember that one.I don't remember saying anything as bad as that against Madagascar.Of course, we're all aware of that whole lemur thing. I don't think I need go into that here, do I?Pesonally, I'm a Conservative. I think that marriage should be between two people of the same species. :p
What is it they say? So many donkeys, so little time… What can a poor boy do?
Wow, Ed. That is a fundamentalist view if I ever saw one.
LMAO.
:hi:God's I misses ya'all!:coffee::heart:
