Rameau, "Aux langueurs d'Apollon," from Platee.
This is brilliant. And hilarious.

Another leg on my virtual walking tour (or perhaps a moped tour) of
Paris in the 18th century.
Opera in France began with the establishment of the Academie Royale
de Music by Louis XIV in 1669. It was set up as a State institution,
generally referred to as "l'Opera," which included both opera and
ballet. The Academie Royale was essentially a monopoly. Any opera or
ballet performed anywhere in France had to pay a royalty to the
managers of the Academie.
Over its history what would become known as the Paris Opera was
located in many different venues in Paris, most of which were
destroyed by fire. (I imagine it was kind of tough getting the fire
from all those candles to not wander off.) The first official opera
house was the Salle d'Issy, located in what was then a suburb of
Paris (the Issy-les-Moulineaux).
Today the legacy is represented by the Opera Garnier and the Opera
Bastille. The Opera Garnier opened in 1875 and is a building of Second
Empire lavishness. The Opera Bastille is modern in architectural style
and opened in 1989. Both could be and in fact are referred to as the
Paris Opera, though the majority of operas are now performed at the
Opera Bastille.
Luckily the public gets to enjoy both, no matter what they are called.
It's Paris. It's opera. It's ALL good.
Incidentally, two of the small number of busts on the front facade of
the Opera Garnier are of Mozart and Beethoven — one of whom wrote
operas but wasn't French, the other who wasn't French and who only
wrote one opera. A few more busts are of Italians. Go figure that
one. Maybe the French are right these days in trying to protect
their cultural integrity.
Can anyone say "Rameau" and "Lully"?

"Opera Garnier (1875-present), interior."a magnificent picture!I love them all but this one is a dream picture! :heart:thanks for the info and pictures Eddie,a lovely post 🙂
They're doing Platee again in December with basically the same ensemble as in the video. God I wish I were rich. :cry:Well I'm going to take a nap now with Sasha. A blessing there even if I can't see Platee or do a bunch of other things. Till later!
Man, I would love to see some of these places, and to see an opera in person.Someday….
They certainly had good interior decorators back then! :p:heart:
Well I can't find the link anywhere on your blog. I think something is wrong. Seriously. Oh, well. Never mind.Zeus is angry that you've accussed him of fooling around! :p
PS I can't PM you. The link is missing. Did you turn it off or something?
nope! all my friends can PM me at any time!I had about 10 PM from Willis today.. maybe that's the reason? leave it for tomorrow…the 100F left behind a nasty storm,as I write this , thunder and lightning is going on… we ahve warnings till 11pm but I hink it might go on all night .. both my pussy cats are under my bed 🙂
go to your Inbox and click on Send New Msg, address is ellinidata. I have no idea why you can not send any mesgs to me, a.you are in my friends list,b. Anne (a.k.a. starree) just send me on and I do not see any bug… sorry for having problems with my post, I wish I knew why…
It's not that I can't (unless you have accidentally marked one of my PMs as Spam), it's that the MESSAGE ANGELIKI tab appears nowhere on your blog. I'm getting the MESSAGE tab on Richard's blog, on Star's blog, etc. But not yours, neither on the Main Page or on your About page. It's just not there.
Wow, that is one cool video! I love the dress on the principal singer, even if she looks a bit fierce! 🙂
I thought you would like it. They certainly put the comic into Opera Comique.
Eddie,I can not see what friends/visitor see,I have no idea why,all my friends send msgs and I open many all day long today…I apologize for not being more helpful but I do not know how to solve it …the host can not send a msg to herself as a result I can not see what you see… 😦
PSno msg of yours ever marked as a spam by me 🙂
Well thanks for checking. You might ask a few other people here and there if they can see your MESSAGE ANGELIKI tab on your main page. Any recent changes to your CSS?I just find it weird that one day the tab is there and the next day it isn't. Anyway, I've done all I can do.
:)nothings has been changed,I am sorry if you are not willing to send a message from your inbox area or your friends list,I wish I knew how to change things but since I received msgs from everybody else and I am not good in playing around with my CSS, I will leave it at that too, I've done all I can do as well…I checked my friends list you are there, I checked my spams you are NOT there, I told you two ways to send a PM, sorry if I can not receive a link but I will be OK ..Good night Eddie 🙂
It is a bug that already appeared in Opera, so don`t bother trying to find a solution, it needs higher authorities to be solved. Nerak tried to send a PM to Carol but failed, yesterday.Btw, I thought Bastille was destroyed
@ DarkoIt was, but I think the name Opera Bastille refers to the street name. And thanks.
I just checked Angeliki's main page. I don't see a 'send message' thing either, however, if I go to my own friend's list, it has the 'send message' underneath the picture. But, as Darko said, it's an opera bug.
I liked the opera singers paper dress and, I agree, Opera Garnier is 'magnificent'. I'd feel like a queen walking down those steps even if I were in blue jeans.
I think I'd have to dress a little for the Opera Garnier. Otherwise I would feel totally out of place. Opera for blogging, however, I can wear bluejeans. :pI liked the paper dress too, esp. the way she kept tearing sheets off of it (getting one upside down ). But mostly it was just the expressions on her face and her gestures that I loved — the way she pointed at something and then getting it wrong pointed in another direction. LMAO.
