I have yet to figure out the reason for the
cow on this box.
Yesterday being Thanksgiving I kind of overdid it a bit on the salt. I
don't know how much salt I consumed yesterday, but I have no doubt that
it was way over the 2000 mg daily maximum stipulated on a Low Sodium
diet.
Overdoing it yesterday I thought I would take it easy today and
make sure the 2 meals per day I normally eat were definitely in line
with 2000 mg. The first thing that came to mind was to have Nissin Cup
O' Noodles. I mean, they're basically noodles. Noodles can't be bad for
you, right? Well as it turns out one styrofoam cup of Cup O' Noodles
contains 1110 mg of salt. That's a whopping 52 percent of the daily
total. I suppose the salt comes not from the noodles themselves, but
from the beef bouillon-like soup that is created for the noodles when
you add the boiling water.
So what I decided to do was to have 2 baked potatoes as one of my meals.
Even with a little butter and low-fat sour cream that should only come
in at about 400 mg. Which leaves 1600 for the day — which covers the
noodles. In fact I'll be about 500 shy of the maximum. Which is super
trying to recuperate from yesterday.
It really is all about balance. Having been on the Low Sodium diet for
4 years now I can say that if a person reads the nutritional information
on the labels and does a little planning, then 2000 mg per day isn't
difficult to do.
Incidently, Nissin Cup O' Salt — uh, I mean Cup O' Noodles — has
virtually no cholesterol and little fat. So if you are on the Low
Cholesterol diet or want to loose weight they're very good.
🙂 thanks for the invite … Ed, if I'd ever make it to the US, I'd be pleased to have Spokane on my route. I guess, I'm one of the rare vegetarians who don't bother, that others enjoy meat … it's just something that I made up for myself 35 years ago …
@ Dirk. You know here in Spokane about 50 percent of the vegetarians I meet are strict vegetarians and the other 50 percent are like you, letting a few extras in every once in a while. Nothing wrong with either choice, in my view.
I rarely meet any vegetarians at all … there's a group called "vegetarians of the world", I guess, here on my.opera … but I always thought being vegetarian is just about eating :p
I notice you said a 'little' thankful. Not that I would want you to have a coronary or anything, but if you want to come over for Thanksgiving next year…let me know. If I'm still here.I would miss a lot of forms of meat going back to vegetarianism. But the main thing that gets me about that lifestyle is you have to spend so much time in food preparation. Either that or eat out all the time at a vegetarian restaurant.
… like you said … it's all about the balance … that's one of the reasons I'm vegetarian … and a little thankful for not having Thanksgiving dinners 🙂
NOODLE UPDATE:Hey, my mom suggested that the cow image on the box was to correspond to "beef" flavored noodles. An inspired idea. Unfortunately I'll have to wait to go back over to the store and check the "chicken" and "shrimp" varieties to confirm that, as I only have beef.More on this as it develops. :p:)
Oh yeah. Marilyn. A great movie.I'm actually over at your place listening to some ELO. Album quality — especially with the headphones.
I have a great-niece by marriage and as far as I know, she is the only vegetarian in my entire family. We come from farming stock. We eat everything that can be grown—chickens, vegetables, fruit, cows……Off point—Do you remember the movie, "Some Like it Hot" with Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis? I'm watching it on TV.
I saw him play with the Indianapolis Symphony in the 70s. He played the Liszt "Totentanz" and one of the Bach Brandenburgs, forget which one. Thanks for the suggestion.
I have a lot of good music on my player, Edward. If you wish, you can go to MixPod. get an account, and embed one of their players on your post and download music from MixPod to your heart's content. I have about 125 now I think, maybe more. Haven't tried to find any classical music. Think I will search for Van Cliburn.
Edward, I added several pieces by Van Cliburn. Some Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Liszt, others. He still lived in Kilgore with his mom between appearances, when I was living and working at Kilgore News Herald. He was a very nice man, a mama's boy for sure. His mom directed his career every step of the way for most of his life.
I am glad you are perky "the day after Thanksgiving" Eddie!salt is over rated anyway!
Looks like a sausage sticking out of her mouth. :eyes:
@ Linda. That sounds great. I'll check it out tomorrow. @ Angeliki. On the other hand chili pepers cannot be rated enough. :pHey I like the new avatar. She looks hungry for something.
I am supposed to watch my salt intake also, because I have hypertension, but I don't pay too much attention to that. Some things I can eat without adding salt, but some just demand it. So I add it. I will live till I die.
@ DarkoI don't know much about physiology, Darko. But I would think that would be the only way to go unless I wanted to eat six times a day. @ DirkHmm. Salted coffee. Might make a nice complement to the mescaline taken beforehand. :p
@ Linda"And everyone must liveUntil their dying breath."(Regina Spector song)
… need to put some salt in your :coffee: then :p ?
😆 😆 😆
One thing is bugging me. Eating 52% of daily salt in only one meal looks like a punch to your blood system. No matter that you will sort out 48% for the rest of a day.Am I wrong? My grandma always took care about amount of salt she eats. My aunt too, she is a great cook but…:left: :right::sst: …sometimes I need to put a lot of salt in what she cooked for us, it just can`t be digested :left:Early morning, my first coffee on the table, I might not be sane yet.
😆 😆 😆
 your parents and grandparents were experimenting with mescaline? :left:
YoU LITTLE DEVIL!
I'll bet.
 I forgot to put a coffee smiley there. It was not on purpose. My grandpa taught me to prepare a coffee when I was about 10 – and I was good :happy:Until I, BY ACCIDENT, mixed a salt and sugar cane. Since then, they have different canes for it :left:

A cardiologist told me to be careful about my salt intake because of my family history of CHF, artery diseases, high blood pressure and strokes. Another doctor told me not to limit my salt intake, because I need the salt for a brain disorder I have.Damned if I do, damned if I don't.
You just have to go "eenie, meenie, miney, mo" because everything we do, eat, or take for medicine now is bad for something else. I pretty much do what I want to about medications. If it has too many bad side effects, I don't take it.
@ Star. Brain disorder?I knew it! :heart:@ Linda. Damned if I do and damned if I don't?Damn it! That sucks!:p
Oh, Edward. If you only knew.:D:lol:
You can get those packs too instead of the cups. In the packs the spices come in this separate tiny pack and if you want you don't have to put it in. I can't help but like the spices, though.
Ed, occasionally I will get these cup o' noodle things and dump them into a strainer and let the salt and other seasonings fall out. I prefer adding my own seasonings. Mrs. Dash (regular or spicy) is a good one. No salt in that. Or just celery, onion and garlic.
CUP O' SOUP COW LOGO UPDATEWell my mom tested here theory looking at the logs on the noodle boxes at the grocery and she was right. The cow is representational of the "beef" flavor.beef flavor = cow logochicken flavor = chicken logoshrimp flavor = shrimp logoElementary, my dear Barbara! Great job of deduction!
