This was one hell of a Ford truck ad,
I have to tell ya.
After years of criticism by consumers that TV advertising is abnormally
loud compared to most programming, a Bill is being considered by the
U.S. Congress which will limit the volume levels on TV commercials.
Yeah, but —
What about all the Americans who WANT their TV volume on ads nice and
loud? Who will then be forced to grab the remote and TURN UP the sound
to get their favorite Budweiser beer commercial cranking at deafening
theater-level decibel levels? Doesn't that infringe on THEIR rights?
Unconstitutional! Tea Party! Grab the rifles!
You know I might be wrong about this, but I was under the impression
that most new televisions had something you could set in the Menu to
equalize the volume. Yeah?

I tell you what Darko, with the cost of cable getting as high as it is here, I've been thinking about getting rid of all cable except internet and phone anyway. I can find other things to do in the evening — which may possibly include the use of headphones and Pink Floyd. :p

Good sound makes movie even better, surrounding system gives 3D effect to the sound. It just don`t feel right to limit the sound level. When I was listening Pink Floyd concert on TV I needed to have my headset on. Otherwise, my neighbours would try to assassinate me :left:I mean, you just can`t listen Pink Floyd with a low wolume, right? Right? :insane::lol:

Well I don't know. I guess I won't find out till I get one.In any case I've just added a bit more to the post — don't know how a code would affect an equalizer, but you may be right. In any case, the real thing here seems to be to get the TV to equalize the sound. Lower volume commercials aren't going to help me when I watch a movie with the wide theater dynamic range — I remember when I watched Blood Diamonds I was turning the volume up and down the entire movie. And that is not unusual. It's pretty much any movie over the past years. Thanks for the additions!

Absolutely right, Dare. Would be sacrilege to turn down volume on Pink Floyd, the world's greatest ever prog rock group, yea, verily. the best rock artists. Period. But I have to agree with the people on the commercial;s volume. DirecTV seems to be worse than cable. When a commericial comes on, the volume at least doubles and I have to turn it way down, then turn back up when program comes on. It's a pain in the butt. :bomb:

:lol:All possible solutions to the problem. Unfortunately I can't watch Jennifer Love Hewitt's breasts every week on Ghost Whisperer without the damn TV.Now if she would just come over, well, that would be different. I'd be too busy for TV anyway.:)

Okay I can't stand the temptation any more. Just have to post one of Jennifer.

@ Linda.Besides you and Darko, Allan here on the blogs is also a Pink Floyd guy. FYI.

I usually just hit "mute" when the commercials blast out of the box. I get so tired of fightin' with it.:D
edwardpiercy said:
Star, I usually don't even do that. At night I try to have the volume low enough that I don't disturb my neighbors. But that means I do have to turn the movies up and down a lot.Well now you don't have any neighbors. You can blast "Singin' In the Rain" as loud as you want! 😆

They wouldn't dare.

I can rock out all I want to. Still can't be heard outside because I have empty spaces on each side of me.

That's great Linda.Well, except for the fact that it gives the zombies much more room to attack your house.:)

The volume of commercials is ridiculous sometimes. I usually either mute it or get up and do something in another room. When I can't hear the tv anymore, I know my show is back on. There are a few I like. Any with kids or animals are usually adorable. The recent cologne commercials with Charlize Theron and Matthew McConoughey are too sexy not to watch. And the Kate Winslet Tresor commercial is very romantic. I'm sure you've seen the Charlize one:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Awf_8urofEY
edwardpiercy said:
I had seen that commercial Pam but was just guessing it was Charlize. So, now I know! :up:Right around Thanksgiving, Target had this commercial on with this totally insane woman in a red dress. LMAO. Unfortunately that was a limited ad campaign. I sure do hope they bring her back. The ones I get really sick of are the pharmaceutical commercials. And of course the always inane beer commercials.

And the lawyer commercials urging people to sue someone. How crass! I commend almost all commercials to the bottomless pit of hell. I do not watch commercials (except M&Ms and a couple others.) I zap em.
edwardpiercy said:
Well the M&M commercials are pretty good, I'll say that.

I posted the talking pothole commercial on my blog. Wait, I'll get the link. It was hilarious!:D
