Go ahead — kick the tires, play with the exhaust
jets — they don't come cheaper than right here!
Now that our space shuttle fleet is being discontinued,
NASA has decided to sell our used space shuttles.
Gee, you know, I hardly know whether to buy a used
space shuttle right now, or maybe to pinch my pennies
and save up for one of the new space shuttles a little
bit down the line.
Artist's concept of the new space shuttle. Enjoy
the feel of rich Corinthian leather.

BTW with regard to "rich Corinthian leather" there is no such thing. π

@ Angeliki.I guess I'll wait. I don't have a space shuttle license right now anyway. :)@ Linda. :lol:I used to have a condo at Clavius, but they came and tore it down to get this big monolith thing out of the ground. :p
Yeah, I'll have one of those to tool back and forth between earth and the moon where I have a vacation/weekend home.
"Gee, you know, I hardly know whether to buy a usedspace shuttle right now, or maybe to pinch my penniesand save up for one of the new space shuttles a littlebit down the line." that's a big dilemma!usually prices drop after a year or so (like the electronics! ) If I was you i will wait :pare we invited to see it?imagine the parties you can give in that!now I hope you make a post about "the uses of a Nasa Used Space Shuttle! " :lol:thanks for sharing!i never knew!

I have a space shuttle endorsement on my driver's license.Oh, wait. That's a scooter endorsement.
@ AngelikiI watched 32 seconds of that. I think I'm ready!   :p@ Star. I would love a scooter ride. Especially if it had a seat of rich, Corinthian leather. Or sumptuous velour.:p:lol:
Thinking about condo on Mars next. No worries, Angeliki, got enough room for all my Opera friends. We'll go moon walking!
ahahahaha I thought you would! π
π I guess I'll wait for the newer one … interesting design
I would buy a new one but also have a old one in garage to ocassionally show around :PAs for summer houses, I have heard a rumour that real estate prices on Europa will rise after 2020. I am off to buy some land there and start building houses. It is the smartest way to spend my billions π
I suspect someone will buy it, have it taken apart and moved piece by piece to a mountain top to build themselves a home like that lady did with a 747. Pretty cool project really and a very expensive one.
Have always loved the idea of a railroad car as a house but have no idea how much it would cost for conversion. Just throwing out a number….$100,000 maybe? Plus, there is the cost of moving it to a site where there are no restrictive codes. City codes would keep me from extending my front porch.
@ Dirk.It is interesting, kinda shapely.@ Darko. What's happening on Europa in 2020? Anything we should know about? Anyway, I imagine that Europa will just be one part of your whole Jupiter DarkoHydro project. :)@ Pam.I vaguely remember that one, that 747.A few years back I found an old railroad car in the want ads for $250. I have to admit that my brain started working on that one, trying to figure out what it would take to convert a railroad car into a small house. It would be thin — but then so are the "cigar houses" in New Orleans. Doing a ballpark estimate for it, throwing in some solar stuff, a pellet stove, ceiling window, etc it came in at around 18K. Not including a place to put it or water lines, of course. But still, not all that bad for a house.I suppose I could by a used mobile home for the same. π

@ Pam.Plenty of places here in Spokane for non-restrictive codes. Maybe you could talk one of your local tribes into putting it on the res? @ Oh I see. I read that section too quickly and missed the date. They certain have a lot of cancellations. Maybe they should call them selves the European Space Procrastinators Agency. :p:lol:(no offense intended).
π
I think you should open an orbital hotel and resort with casino in the rings of Saturn.
But Dare, not a good investment in Europa. You KNOW about that Monolith there, and that in the future, the alien friends are going to turn Europa into another sun for benefit of Earth, since our sun is cooling.Gonna be kinda warm there. I'd pick somewhere else, like Galactic Center.
 I've forgotten my story! However if Jupiter becomes a sun, then Europa is way too close. Everyone there will be roasted.
Linda, you got it wrong. They turned Jupiter into sun to make a nice sunshine for Europa. I am telling you, those condos will sell for a good price π
I would avoid the center of the universe if it were me. Too crowded with black holes. π
Yes, a nice view is half way of the selling a property π
being a person who worked STS1 and STS2, i've got fond memories of these old birds (shuttles). that new design won't fly as high nor will it bring in the bucks (spending is the name of the game) …. so therefore; one must re-invent the wheel. think i'll vote on living on the dark star — it might be cold, but it is total solitude from the masses! π
Deborah I just never have been able to see why NASA didn't just take the engineering plans for the old shuttle and build "upgraded" models of them. I assume — and hope — they had their reasons.
BTW would be interested in reading about your experiences with those programs.
You know I think that in my case unfortunately it was the other way around. I chose career over love on two different occasions. Well, hindsight isn't worth much. It was my karma. Thanks for the story. Not he kind of security I first thought though. No .357 involved evidently. :p
worked security for building 30 (mission control) at NASA Johnson Spaceflight Center (jsc) — sts1 was a trial run and it went well (over ten years in the making). my father (an IBM engineer) helped program and engineer the computers that mannned the shuttles. he won awards for his service to the company, etc.anyways, i had to let the people in and out of the building — upstairs, downstairs, and into the secure areas. we did it all by manual books and the like. the next mission, they bought us computers — i was able to obtain (through the government's assistance) a fair program to allow for electronic references. there was a time when i spent hours and hours (paid of course) to enter all those names into the database. the references between my database and the 'badges' (which were some of the first magnetic stripped badges;) didn't always match. thus, comes the security breach (not like those of this day and age). security breaches are not fun …. shuts down the entire operation and requires even more man-hours to reseach and confirm 'no problem' or 'problem.' now, to make a long story short — i'd been paid very little wage for the work i did and i decided under my own strength to leave that awful situation for a better life out here in the west. i ended that career, because it was all i had — out here i've found much more meaning to life than 'just a job!' does that make sense to you? i'll bet it does.that was all, could've been there for the next 20 years and still made a decent wage. only problem is that is all i would have had — a paying job with no life. i'll give up a job over living life any day. how about you ed?
yeah, stuff just happens to each of us (hey, there's a poem in that one too) ….. good night my friend. deborah.
π
you know ed, i might have done better to choose a career over love. that relationship ended in 1998 after 21 years together. still remember the way he touched me too — but i chose to be where i am for a reason, even if i am alone with my dogs. π
no ed, i've never owned a commission. i know how to use one (a gun), but i choose not to — my uncle taught me how to fight with my own hands and feet (he was a 40 plus year marine). never thought the need to own a gun, unless the person facing me had a bigger knife! ha, ha, ha, :p
Yeah, about the choices, that's one reason I don't give myself too much shit about it. Because you never can tell anyway.
Oh that takes me back to that Crocadile Dundee scene with the knife. π
Hey! I'd like to buy one of those and place it in my front yard – just for the hell of it. And for the kids to play around in.
Admit it, Allan. You're really the one who wants to play around in it! π
Of course
