Helen Mirren in Prime Suspect.
When I was a sophomore in high school I developed a wart on my left
index finger just below the knuckle. One day my hand was fine, and the
next day there was this big wart as if by magic. Having never seen a
wart before I nervously went to my mom and rather embarrassingly asked
her what it was. "Oh that's a wart" she told me.
It was an ugly thing. And having no experience in the matter I began to
pick at the little seed things in the center of it. Which of course made
the thing even worse.
After a month or so the wart went away as mysteriously as it had appeared.
But then, a couple months later, another one showed up on the same hand
but on another finger. That one lasted another terrible month. And then
it too was gone.
But the really strange thing about it all was that after those two I've never
had another wart, not in 38 years. I guess warts are caused by the human
papilloma virus. So evidently I had the virus back then but somehow have
never run across it in subsequent years.
Why would that be? The only explanation I can think of is that it was
environmental — something or someone that I came in contact with during
that period. I wasn't dating yet, so the transmission wasn't from kissing or
sex. Which pretty much leaves only indirect contact. Perhaps I got the HPV
from a school desk, in the cafeteria, or off a toilet seat.
Anyway, I'm just glad that I haven't had one since.
There has always been an association between witches and warts. Since
I was a kid I remember seeing depictions of witches with big warts on the
ends of their noses. While the people of 1600 didn't know anything about
viruses, they may nevertheless have observed some sort of connection
between warts and sexual contact. Thus perhaps the depiction of witches
with warts was a reference to a witch being a woman of "loose morals" as
they might have put it back then.
The most famous story about warts that I know of involves actress Helen
Mirren. When she was filming the Prime Suspect series an interviewer
commented on how in many scenes she didn't wear makeup — which back
then was rather unusual. Helen told him that she was doing the filming
"warts and all."
Now that's class. And to the best of my knowledge Helen might be bewitching
but she is not a witch.
Edward, I had the same experience with warts. When I was married to my first husband (he probably caused them) For a period of time, I had warts that kept popping up on my fingers, too, and they would disappear. Just for that period of a few months and never since. The same thing happened to my son at about the same time. He started getting warts on his hands, but mostly on one knee—covered with them. Was really nasty. The doctor had me treat them with acid and a toothpick. Eventually they went away and he never had them again either (he was about 11 when that happened). To me they are very mysterious, with no rhyme or reason to them. I'm just glad they went away in both our cases and hope they never show up again.
"To me they are very mysterious, with no rhyme or reason to them"Exactly! What's with those damn things? :pThat really is strange about your son, I am sorry that he had all that. Much worse than my case.
Helen Mirren is a class act. Have only seen her in a few things but would love to see more. One of them being The Calender Girls. That was funny and I'd like to see it again. I also saw her on tv, some movie about a stolen painting. It might have been a Prime Suspect episode.
Perhaps I got the HPV from a school desk, in the cafeteria, or off a toilet seat.HPV is the virus that men transmit to women and if their body can not fight it it creates the ovarian cancer (no cure for it 100% deadly). I am amazed that men do not know that they transmit it to women.Chances are that you got it by contact. Shaking hands can transmit it. It grows under the finger nails… I gave my young the vaccine that protects women 6 out of the 10 kinds. I hope our short lives are without scares like them! thanks for the info on the witches.. I did not know why they did picture them with wards. the very unusual thing is tests on men and women showed that 9 out of 100 men had HPV and only 3 out 100 women had HPV . It is unknown why women do not contract it unless they have sexual contact only… weird ,no?
PSso you are clean of wards and soft like a baby ???Carreta, Carreta!!! 😆
And you noticed the watermarks?

@ Angeliki.I had to wait to get back to the computer to do a file search. Is it this one? :DI'm going to have to find another version of that photo. The watermark sucks.
@ Angeliki. As far as the witches with warts thing I was just speculating. They might have depicted them that was only because they are ugly. Sorry I didn't make that more clear. As anthropologists say, "More rrsearch needs to be done in this area."@ Pam. Didn't see Calendar Girls, but the shot of Helen's ( o Y o ) in it is pretty much infamous. I'll have to say her's looked nicer at age 59 than some women half her age.
And here's one from Excaliber. That was the movie that I fell in love with her. Helen may not be a witch, but she did play one — the evil Morgana. No warts on that nose, no way.o//o
yes! this is the one! I love it!
Well in the mean time here's one from White Nights.I don't think she ever looked better than she did in that movie.

same here!and I would love if Eddie adds the sexy picture of her ,he does have. If I recall was in a kitchen or some not very glamorous place, she was the center of it!
And here's one from a Vanity Fair shoot.Hot! I think the girls are wanting to get out and play!
Helen Mirren was born Ilyena Vasilievan Mironov on the 26th of July 1945 in Chiswhick. West London. One of the heroes of the Napoleonic wars, Russian field marshal Mikhail Kamensky was her great-great-great-great grandfather [/QUOTE]
Her birthday is one day after mine. I am 3 years older than she. I was wrong about her and Masterpiece Theater and Pam was right. She did star in Prime Suspect and I believe won award for that show.
You know that bikini shot is fairly recent I think. And she's what now — 64? 65? something like that.BTW you know she just got ANOTHER Academy Award nomination.
well I could do this Helen photo all day long. I think it's time I started blog rounds. BUT before I do here's another from White Nights.Da da!
pls allow me to add one too

absolutely stunning!
"watermarks are worst than wards!"You bet! And you know the think I hate most about it is that these places just take photos and put their own watermarks on them. I mean, if you are going to steal photos at least have the courtesy not to put your own bullshit on them, yeah?
darn! :lol:speaking of girls at play:
Thanks Linda. So this is 2010, and she's a Leo so her birthday won't be till July, so she's 64 right now. Maybe 63 or 64 at the time the photo was taken.
Great minds think alike!
Ooooh, she was hot in Excalibur (more so in the less-censored UK release than the tamer US version).I had a very similar experience with warts as a child. Never had a repeat either.
@ Linda.Prime Suspect was very good. Although I think that sometimes the storyline wasn't quite thought out enough.@ Richard. There were 2 versions? I never knew that!Maybe contracting the virus is something like a biological rite of passage — no antibodies yet? You would know much more about that than I would.
Are we still talking about warts? I guess not, the better topic is on its way 😆 I Helen Mirren in Oddyssey 2010 and as a Queen, of course
have a great Friday everybody!see you during my late lunch time……. :bye:
"White Nights" is one of my favorite movies.
@ Darko.I liked The Queen a lot better than I thought I would due to the comedy in it. I didn't expect that. @ Star.Oh yeah. I mean Helen, Michael, Gregory, Isabelle…how can you beat that?My favorite part is where Michael bets Gregory that he can do the spin thing a certain number of times…and does it.

Edward, I found out from a friend who has been a professional entertainer for 50 years that many movies have two versions—one for European audiences and one for America. I have seen some of the European versions and they are much more graphic than what we see (with which fact I am perfectly OK).

Warts is having warts? 🙄 Why do we have to know about that? 😛
:lol:Call me overly sceptical if you want to, but I have a strong suspicion that "Warts" is not the person's real name. :p
Hmmm. Genital Warts. If that GENERAL Genital Warts? The famous hero? Why I am honored! 😆
That crossed my mind, too. But then again, he put several signatures down there. Third one is a bit disturbing 😆
:lol::lol:
Oh good grief! 😆
