Cate Blanchett in Elisabeth: The Golden AgeThere is something with women in armor that I like 😎
Not 18th century! :pNo, joking. All periods are welcome if you like the actress. :yes:Thanks!
Err, I think they`ve said it is late 18th, in IMDB :left:In King Arthur with Clive Oven? No, I haven`t seen that one. But I will take it as recommendation
Then Keira Knightley in Pride & Prejudice 😀
It looks like 18th for sure…. (Moll Flanders)
That's 19th century! But okay even still. Did you see Knightley in Arthur? She kicked some ass in that one both with a bow and a sword.
I've been trying to figure out this one of Kim Novak, which I found looking at Moll Flanders. But if it's Moll then it's Fielding and it's 17th century. But the period of dress in this shot looks to me more late 18th century. So I'm thinking it could be from another movie.
Yeah, I wish I could see more of her the dress to know for sure.:D
"Pride and Prejudice is a novel by Jane Austen. First published in 1813, as her second novel, she started it in 1796 as her first persevering effort for publication. She finished the original manuscript by 1797"Looks like we're both right in a way. I guess I always associate Austen with the 19th.
Hehe 😉
I think you two were born a couple of hundred years later than you should have been. :lol:That Novak shot might have been from "Of Human Bondage", a 1964 film adaptation of W. Somersett Maugham's novel. She played the character Mildred Rogers. I seem to remember that the film was in black-and-white, but they may have made some color stills of her in costume.Anyway….Enjoy your trip into days of yore.:D
@ Star. 😆 Darko needs the samurai code and the elegant geishas. If I'm not mistaken. :)I will look into the "Bondage" aspect Star. Although I can't quite see Kim Novak as being into all that. :p(No, seriously, thanks for the tip. )
w00t!15th century bring it on! :lol:melon and watermelons usually were covered by a cape :onot that I agree on covering any size and shape by any means! :lol:PS Meg Tilly in Dangerous Liaisons yeah her picture on Blockbuster was poor too… :down:however her cupcakes can be seen here :http://www.nndb.com/people/707/000025632/meg-tilly-1-sized.jpg😀
@ Angeliki. :lol:Pushing the cupcakes must have been easy. Pushing the melons might have involved a certain space problem. :lol:Tomorrow: We cover the 15th century. :p
Well I found the link for the pic and it said Moll Flanders.http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/sep/19/classics.genderThere's just no way though that I believe that's 17th century. Looks like this whole unsourced photo thing is coming back to bite me on the ass.(PS the photo was credited to Kobal, but searching it out I found nothing.)
PSI think the two of you covered all actresses :p
PS I had to skip Meg Tilly in Dangerous Liaisons. The solo screen shots I found of her were of such low quality that there was no way I could have brought them back even with Photoshop.:(Tomorrow though I will add one of her and Annette Bening — group shot.
it is amazing to me of how they were able to push their "cupcakes" higher and higher… ( . Y . )
15th century was the century of "balconies" yeah? :pWell maybe next week. :)Thanks for the Meg photo!
Not really casual clothing. But from what I've read they could take it off quickly enough! :lol:Crowe is good but I don't like Blanchet. And the thought of yet another Robin Hood movie… Think I'll skip that one.You know what gets me is that they have to have the empowerment roles for women these days. Marie Antoinette getting pissed and picking up a sword and kicking ass. I don't mind the whole women kicking ass thing, but it's as if the woman is first presented "feminine and demure" and then at the drop of a feathered cap turn into highly accomplished warriors. Seems contrived, as if they are trying to stick with traditional roles but then, later, they aren't. I've done a lot of movie posts! Just click on the "Movie" tag to find them.
It is amazing the amount of clothing a woman had to wear back in those times. Whew! I love it but no wonder they had maids to help them get dressed. I adore Helen Mirren and Michelle Pfeiffer but Cate Blanchette in the armor takes the cake. Well…..I'll take Clive Owen in armor instead. We'll get to see Blanchette in armor again in Robin Hood with Russel Crowe when she plays Maid Marian. Have never really been a fan of him but I'll see that movie anyway because of Cate and, of course, the time frame, scenery, costumes, etc. The only movie I've seen mentioned in your post or in the comments is King Arthur with Clive Owen.
Young Catherine with Julia Ormond perhaps? Or Susanna York in "Tom Jones"? Or Marisa Berenson in "Barry Lyndon"?
Young Catherine is a good suggestion — right time period for this post. I'll go culling for photos and see what I can find. As for Berenson in Barry Lyndon I already incluuded her (you must have missed it! 🙂 ). Tom Jones is of course earlier historically. I would definitely include it if I do a post on 17th century. Incidently, saw the movie when I was a kid — my mother was greatly embarassed that she had taken we kids to "that kind of a movie." 😆
Once, when I was about 15, my aunt wanted to took me and another kid, a niece of her friend to a cinema, she thought it was a Benny Hill movie on repertoire. Instead, it was "Fanny Hill" Oh my, it was a great fun to look at her and her friend`s face when they discovered what was movie about :devil:Lisa Foster as Fanny HillBtw, it was also 18th century
Well I was unable to find any photos from Young Catherine. Except for the VHS/DVD cover, of course, which isn't usable in this case. Looks like Ormond will have to be left out.
Still no luck with a decent shot of Meg Tilly in Dangerous Liaisons either. I found this very grainy screen shot and by reducing it in size in Photoshop was able to get it to look a tad better.Still not good enough for the post itself, though. But I add it here in the Comments for the sake of completion.
Just added Joely Richardson in The Patriot. I love Joely. She is soooo hot.
@ Darko.Darko that's just hilarious, especially after looking up that movie and seeing some scenes from it. MUCH worse than Tom Jones!Well that led me on though to other versions. So I came across a 2007 version with Rebecca Night. And by way of doing that stuff accidentally came across a movie with Kiera Knightley called The Dutchess. Both of those I have added to the post. This really is shaping up into a very inclusive collection. And I thank all who made suggestions and contributed. :wizard:
Anonymous writes:I know it's been almost 3 years but… that nice, round, big heart-shaped butt (no pun intented on the Nirvana song) John Malkovich is using as a table, belongs to Laura Benson. It's her best feature, actually.
Thanks, I'll check it out.:D
@ anonymousYou know I checked it out, and her face looks a dead ringer to Joanna Pavlis. So I'll have to go with what I stated in my post. Do a Google Image search on Pavlis — you will see what I mean. But thanks!
