The landlord at my sister's new place has a violin
hanging on his wall. It is not currently in playable
condition, needing new strings, a neck brace, and a
good tuning. But otherwise it's a pretty good violin
actually, well made. I couldn't resist taking it off
the wall and just getting the feel of it again.
I haven't played in about 30 years. But it seems that
I still know how to hold the thing at least.
And here's a person who can actually play. You know with regard to the Beethoven, I really don't know how any subsequent composer even brought themselves to write a violin concerto after that one. Non plus ultra.
๐ Thanks, I wish. :p
I love the violin…the sound is so dramatic. You look like a natural ๐

@ Darko. :lol:Think a little later. :p:)
@ Darko. You can hear me play on Friday the 27th of Never. :pOne thing though, I had been thinking of playing again, but I didn't think I would be able to hold the instrument up without getting out of breath. Getting this hands on let me know that I could play again (so to speak) if I wanted. Of course I would have to start from the basics again…
@ Star. Thanks, Star. Yeah, seems I opened a whole can of worms. Everybody seems to want the big comeback recital. :pThe photo I took into Photoshop and used the Watercolor filter on it.

No. I'd be starting virtually all over again. It's all there mentally, but my motor skills have to pick up on it. It would probably take a year just to get to 1/2 of my former level. Which wasn't much to begin with.If I do manage to get a violin up the road perhaps I could work my way up to a some very simple pieces. That would be fine with me — it's mainly just an emotional thing anyway, just doing it again. The violin belonged to his brother, and I'm not sure what the story is on it. Maybe eventually I'll find out. Well, after I get my dental work paid for this Winter I'll start trying to locate a good fiddle now that I know the thing won't tire me out.
Edward, had no idea you played violin. I bet that landlord would be willing to fix that violin just to hear it played. Make some kind of deal with him to allow you to play it. I think it would be a good stress reliever. Music is for me. I REALLY, REALLY want to hear you play. You'd be back in form in no time. A month, maybe two?
That is so cool, Edward. Would love to hear you play, too. (I'm not in the minority on that one. :D) You do look quite natural in the pose.Pretty cool photo, by-the-way. Looks like a painting.:heart:
That's right. It's not like riding a bicycle. :pI think I am happy, like in the photo with Sasha. My smile actually looks like a smile and not a grimace.
I always said,"what you don;t use you lose!"I am glad you practice on every thing else!maybe playing the violin will be your next winter activity ?you look very composed ! your picture can be an LP cover for sure!
BTW, Anne-Sophie is going to be in NYC next Spring, she will be doing a series, one of which is the concerto by that Russian woman composer. I highly recommend that you go if you can still get a ticket — I have a feeling that one is going to be legendary. I can send give you the link tomorrow if you want. ???
PS. Just watched Anthony Bourdain's new "Return to Lebanon" episode. The eating of baby sparrows excepted — an excellent program. :)What's that white stuff the drink there? Kinda looks like ouzo but isn't.
… I could swear I heard him whisper this morning, passing him by on my way to office
๐
@ Dirk. That's just what B. used to do when I was in high school too — "Practice more, Ed! You're not reading enough philosphy, Ed! Forget about that redhead in English class, Ed — no, wait, on second thought, send her to me!":D@ Angeliki. Well perhaps before I drink ouzo in Cairo with Sophie Marceau I could drink raki in Beirut with Fairuza Balk. :yes:Thanks for the info. I'll put the Avery Hall link here later, so check back.

You look most professional, Ed! Now we need the audio… ๐
First the raki. I'll take mine with sparkling water and two sugar cubes. And now add Fairuza. She looks like she's ready for a nice Fall in Beirut, doesn't she?I simply have to get that magic lamp to working. :worried:

๐ฎ I won't ask :p
WHAT? You didn't even mention your CREAMED potatoes i made on your birthday. Thought for sure you would brag about that. I'm sure it was just an oversight right?
You are not on my birthday post, Kat. Try the 88 keys post. :pAlthough to be honest I decided not to mention the creamed potatoes. ๐ Well, I have 2 whipped potatoes at least. And — oh — that gives me an idea — I'll put the creamed potatoes and gravy on bread! *goes to cook*
Ah, potatoes on the toast :chef:
Ha! LMAO. That's because potatoes aren't Greek. And Greek women are allergic! :p
