Pakistani Ambassador to the U.S. Husain Haqqani
on This Week with Christiane Amanpour.
AMANPOUR: Mr. Ambassador, I would like to ask for
us here, why was Osama bin Laden found only a few
blocks from one of your own miltary installations?
And second, when will heads roll concerning this?
HAQQANI: Well let me say first that Pakistan is a
big country. Very big. You might say it is huge.
So it is easy for someone to get lost in that
immensity. I would also like to add that more
members of al Qeada have been found in Pakistan
than in Iraq or Afghanistan. So that must be
considered when we talk about heads rolling.
AMANPOUR: Will there be an investigation into
what happened with bin Laden there? And will
heads roll then?
HAQQANI: Yes, there will be an investigation. A
very large investigation. A huge investigation.
And if we find any government or military official
in Pakistan who actually knew what was going on with
regard to anything at all, we will deal with it.
AMANPOUR: And then heads will roll?
HAQQANI: We will do our best to make heads roll.
But you know it is a funny thing about heads.
They are not round and smooth like a football.
There are noses and ears. So it is more difficult
to make heads roll. But we will try our best, and
of course the United States will be kept informed
of any heads that we are rolling.
AMANPOUR: And what about heads that you decide
not to roll? As you are aware people are very
suspicious with regard to the Pakistani government
right now. How can we be assured that you will
be rolling all the heads that should be rolled?
HAQQANI: Well, we will be rolling a good number
of heads, I assure you. There is no one around
right now that would like to see heads roll more
than we in Pakistan.
