😆 Well, Karajan was a perfectionist. He polished the Berlin Philharmonic to a shine. Too much of a shine, say his detractors. Not me, at least far as Romantic and modern music goes – his interpretations of Sibelius, Strauss, Bruckner, Mahler and the Second Viennese School are all highly worthwhile. I don't find him so convincing in Classical and earlier music.
Yes, he certainly does have his detractors — too cold, unemotional, tempi too fast, a mechanic blah blah blah. But I guess when it comes right down to it I like my Beethoven the old-fashioned way — played by a large modern orchestra blasting out a huge volume of gorgeous sound. :p And Karajan was certainly good at that. I found him problematic in the 70s. But I'm liking him way better now.In any case he did the Beethoven set 4 times. So I guess he wasn't just bs'ing about the perfection thing. Thanks for your Comments!
I like that quote. Pretty cool.:heart:
@ Star.Yeah, it really struck home when I ran into that the other day. I've felt for a couple weeks now that when I get back from Seattle in October that it will be time to go to work full-time on that third novel I've been putzing with for a couple of years but never felt ready to write. On to the next mountain! :D:heart:

Nice quote. Remind me on another one: The great only appear great because we are on our knees. It was James Larkin who said that 😀
I had to look up who Larkin was. :doh:That's a very Enlightenment Era type quote there — even though from the Wiki article I found he was 100 years later. In any case it was that kind of thinking that toppled thrones in Europe and elsewhere.
First I`ve heard that quote, then I was interesting who was that smart 😎 This is how I knew about James Larkin 😀
