The new air conditioner.
Now I can breathe easy for the rest of the
Summer. And as long as the unit lasts. It's
a Kenmore ES model, the same as my last air
conditioner, and that lasted 10 years. So
I'm hoping this one will last that long also.
And at 5,200 BTUs it's keeping my living room
nice and chilly.
Greatest of thanks to Kevin Masteller of Our
Lady of Lourdes Cathedral, a friend of my mom,
for making this possible.

A worthy addition indeed! Amazing how much better you feel when you can keep cool. π
π I feel like a penguin! :pingu: BTW have you been having problems with very slow page loads on Opera this morning? I don't know whether it is Opera, my local ISP, or the new Windows updates that were installed this morning. In any case it is very frustrating to have to work like this. I almost didn't post.
It's been pretty cool here too, San. There have only been a couple days that I've really needed the AC so far — but of course I keep it on anyway. I'm sure it won't last. As crazy as the weather is this year around the country I wouldn't be surprised if we see 100 F in WA and BC. π¦ Of course given that it has been so crazy, wouldn't be surprised either to see this early Spring stuff last into September.
Is it strong enough to blow some warm air up here? I wonder when we're going to have some summer. π¦
Hmmm. Thanks for the info.Kinda brings back memories of the old 56K modems, yeah? π

Yes. It's been very slow today and was slow yesterday. My assumption is that the Opera servers are busy with distributing the 11.50 upgrade and My Opera gets pushed into the background. But that's only a guess.

Wishing continued coolness through out the summer. With your machine coming directly with Blessings of Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral I would think you are set for many years of Divine coolness. π Have seen no change of speed yesterday or today.Keep π

Ha! I like that phrase! Divine it is!
The fact that I like to use AC sometimes is that it can dry the air. On a hot and humid summer it`s priceless option π
Congrats on your new A/C, Edward! Hope it's as inexpensive as it is cooling for you.:heart:
I visited Our Lady of Lourdes Basilica in France in 2002. The temperatures in Southern France that time of year sre typically around 75 degrees. I don't think it ever reached 50. As I recall it started off as a cold and damp week until I finally went into one of the outdoor baths they have there. The baths are known to cleanse bodily and spiritual ailments. The water was bitter cold, almost took my breath away, but when I stepped out my entire body felt incredibly warm and remained that way for the rest of the week.Glad you got an AC.
It's Ironic that people living ct or near the Equator mostly can't afford air conditioners. :p.Lord knows they could use them..When My brother was working as an ex-pat in Northern Botswana, they had an air-con running twenty four/seven. It was stifling hot inside, even at three in the morning! :insane:.Yet it was always about ten degrees hotter outside! :faint:.I battled to sleep there. :left:.
@ Darko.I wonder if the dryness is what helps me to breath better?@ Star. Thanks! My old Kenmore ES raised typically raised my electric bill by $2 a month — and I ran the hell out of it. So I'm hoping that this will be similar. :)@ Mags. Thanks, Mags. Lourdes is one of those places my mom always dreamed about getting to. But she never did, alas. @ Qlue.My anthropology associates at school all dreamed about going to do fieldwork in Papua New Guinea or Costa Rica. Me, I hoped to do my research in Greenland. π
.

Running the air conditioning raises my electric bill by about $50 – $75 a month, Edward. But, from what I understand, our electricity provider has some of the highest rates in the country.I'd erect a windmill if I could afford one. And install solar panels. And a squirrel cage. Lots of 'em.:eyes::lol::heart:

I have some, too, Richard. Think they'd be willing to work for peanuts?:lol:

I don't think it is possible to get something like an air conditioner in Denmark. I have never seen any in any home I have been in. Never saw one in the shops or in commercials. Some people have ventilation fans, but you don't see many of those either. It simply doesn't get warm enough. We just open windows and doors and the temperature in the room will soon be good and cold again.

I would love that!We used to have this thing called an attic fan. It was located in the ceiling, usually in the central hallway, and would pull air from the windows and doors through the house up into the attic and out to open air. Cooled our houses wonderfully. Cost pennies to operate, too. That was before our temperatures were in excess of 100 deg. F., and humidity was less than 90%, though. There is an attic fan in my house. When the house was gutted and remodeled before I bought it, they disconnected the wiring and sealed it off. For purposes of "energy efficiency" they told me.Uh huh.

My first house had one of these. It worked surprisingly well. My current house, like yours, has the fitting but it has been sealed off as well. A shame.
I think contractors have some kind of kickback with the electric companies, myself.:lol::heart:
