Count Dracula (Christopher Lee) once again gets crux-flashed in 1973s Satanic Rites of Dracula. This was the last vampire movie the Lord of Horror made, with Lee saying he thought the movie “fatuous.” Actually it’s not much different than most of his Hammer Film series; and in fact the whole deadly plague thing thrown into this one adds something new. The movie has an itty bit of titty, so Not Suitable For Work. Just in case you would watch a movie called Satanic Rites of Dracula at work anyway.
Not at all familiar with these … in fact, the only Dracula film I ever saw was the Francis Ford Coppola effort of 1992 (I think). A very “lush” production, called (coincidentally enough) “Bram Stoker’s Dracula”. I liked it, but I’m VERY visual.
Coppola’s effort was I thought one of the best of all time, perhaps THE best. It diverges from the classic Stoker tale in many respects, but I think in ways that Stoker himself would have found interesting at the very least. If a person had only to see one vampire movie, that would be the one I would recommend. Of course there have been so many vampire movies (and novels, and television shows) across the decades. Personally, I find it amazing that the theme could be repeated so many times without losing all of its vitality in total. I guess that just indicated how strong of a story it was in the first place.
I remember “Satanic Rites of Dracula” but I never liked the genre too much. But I also remember that after I’ve seen “Nosferatu” with Max Schreck starring as Count Orlok, I didn’t sleep much that night. I was only ten years old at the time.
I didn’t like Coppola’s movie, though. Too long and boring.
Darko if you’d like to travel those dark days of yore in a new form, you might try this movie.
Shadow of the Vampire.
yeah sorry…have not come across this at all but would look into it..
