The town square in Linkoping.
I was just on Travelocity looking to see how much it would cost for me
to fly to Indianapolis next fall to visit some of my relatives there. While
I was at it, I decided to find out what it was costing to go to London these
days. And then, just for the hell of it and because I ran across the city
name in a list of cities, I checked what it would cost to fly to Linkoping,
Sweden.
From Spokane (GEG) to Linkoping (LPI) would cost $1,055 US flying next
September.
Of course, I had absolutely no idea where Linkoping was except that it
is evidently somewhere in Sweden.
Wouldn't that be wild, just to pick a place that you had never heard
of almost at random, and then take a vacation there? Even if the place
sucked it would still be a pretty wild adventure — like the explorers
of the old days who didn't really know where the hell they were going
either.
By the way, I'm sure Linkoping is a very fine town. And I now know
where it is.
(PS. Couldn't get the umlated "o" to work, so…I apologize.)

re Matt I was kinda hoping he'd come back this way to Seattle. :DBTW, is this one of your years for GR?
edwardpiercy said:
He's not that far away from them now. There's an old post that Richard did where he got together with Matt.
edwardpiercy said:
Or maybe HE should write this thing called "a letter" and let me know all about it.

Matt lives in the city where I was born. In fact, fairly close to where the old family farm used to be, near Indiana University. We had lots of emails back and forth a while back when I discovered this. Ed, I have a list somewhere that I was making of places I've never been but would like to see.

OMG — THREE Hoosier-related people on Opera? :lol:I would love to see the list, Pam. Maybe sometime you could do a post on it. :sherlock:

If I can find the list, I will. I make an awful lot of lists then loose them.

I have that list too. I know it would be extremely hard to visit all these places but…. who knows *shrugs*As for that trip to Linkoping, you should try to buy tickets during end of August/beginning of September, then you coud have considerable discount. I did it last year for my trip to Japan. Belgrade-Frankfurt-Tokyo and in return Tokyo-Munich-Belgrade costed 1070 eur with Lufthansa. Comparing with 1400 eur as a regular price I was satisfied."nope, we are visiting Barbados only"*drooling*

I've been to Linkôping, actually! But another story is better:When I was like 23 years old, my girlfriend and I, together with an other couple, sat on a kitchen floor talking about what to do the next day. Then I came up with the idea that we should bring forth the map of Europe, pin it on the wall and play dart with it. One would throw a dart from 3 meter's distance, and whereever the dart hit the map, we'd go in the morning. The dart landed in a town in Northern Italy called Como. The next day we teamed up two and two and hitch hiked down there, where we met outside the central postal office three days later. That was grand. From believing that we would do everything as usual, we went to a foreign country – a decision process of only two minutes.

An amazing story! I've always loved tales of adventure. So did you enjoy Linkoping? 😀
ricewood said:
Not particularly, to be honest. But I was hungry and thirsty and had no money. That might explain most of it 😀
gdare said:
Allan, this is a nice story. I am just wondering what would you do if you hit the middle of Mediterranean sea? 😀
ricewood said:
Actually, we hit the North Sea at first attempt. What do you think we did? 😀
