The love-struck suitor visits His Love and polishes
her harp (not a metaphor).
I told somebody the other day that I think my thing with Valentina
Lisitsa is like a schoolboy crush.
But last night I was thinking that given my age that it is more like the
stories of courtly love of old. She is my Queen and I am either her
troubadour or her humpback jester — haven't decided which.
STAGES OF COURTLY LOVE
(from Barbara Tuchman.)
- Attraction to the lady, usually via eyes/glance.
- Worship of the lady from afar.
- Declaration of passionate devotion.
- Virtuous rejection by the lady.
- Renewed wooing with oaths of virtue and eternal fealty.
- Moans of approaching death from unsatisfied desire.
- Heroic deeds of valor which win the lady's heart.
- Consummation of the secret love.
- Endless adventures and subterfuges avoiding detection.
Well I don't know. I don't think all of that adds up to what is going on.
So I think I'll have to stick with school boy crush.
STAGES OF THE SCHOOLBOY CRUSH
- Passing of notes to the object of the crush.
- Riding by her house on a bicycle.
…Oh to hell with it.

If Val were in fact a vampire she could suck all the blood out of me and I would become a vampire myself and, you know, hang out with her for a couple of centuries or so. Perhaps you are right. I've just got the wrong allegory going here. It should be something more like The Vampire Lestat. Her husband, Alexei, would be Lestat. And I would be Louis.I'll have to get a bicycle, though. :p

Given the fact that V is definitely a vampire (I've seen the pictures) eternal fealty is a possible outcome. Just make sure to stand close to her coffin next full moon. (Remember to put lights on your bicycle when going to the tomb.)

Auron writes:Just like today, many would-be lovers from the middle-ages had to put up with rejection from the “the object of his great desire”, as this peopm about unrequited love shows…“I was living pleasantly, serenely and peacefully the day that Love entered my heart, for I neither loved nor was loved, nor did I feel any ill or injury from love. Now I do not know what love is or what it is all about, for I am in love with a lady who does not love me at all, and yet, all that I possess I have from her and I would have the whole world from her if it were mine. II. I have my feelings from her in place of other riches, and my songs in place of knightly valour, and if I were a king, a duke or an emir I would accomplish splendid deeds of prowess for love of her, but lacking the power that befits them, for serving her I have my noble faith, and when she has clearly recognized it, she ought to accept noble faith in place of other riches”.Full poem: http://www.primarysourcebook.com/medieval/unrequited-love-in-the-middle-ages-a-thirteenth-century-poem-from-the-heart

Love is love, man. Like nothing else, man. Greatest among all powers, man.But falling in love with an ivory skinned eastern eurpean vampire can be risky, Ed. We both know that.
